The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Graphic Design is recommended for students seeking careers in the field. This degree focuses on methods and techniques used in effective graphic communication.
Our Graphic Design students express their conceptual talents within a rigorous curriculum. By emphasizing and maintaining high standards, our curriculum reflects the quality and competitive rigor demanded by recognized and respected design firms.
In addition to courses in the visual arts and art history, the B.F.A. program emphasizes courses that prepare students for professional experience. Study includes courses in graphic design, typography, brand identity, illustration, web design, digital imaging, motion design, environmental design, 3D printing and portfolio development.
Internship study opportunities also are available to Â鶹ÊÓƵ graphic design students.
The curriculum culminates in Lamar’s distinctive senior thesis program involving a series of original works produced by each B.F.A. degree candidate, exhibited in the Dishman Art Museum and defended by the student in a formal written thesis.

Our computer lab provides students the opportunity to utilize industry standard software and equipment. The graphic design studio consists of 18 Macintosh workstations, as well as workstations dedicated for printing and scanning.
Our graphic design studio stays up to date with Adobe Creative Suite Software, which includes Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premier, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver, as well as Lightwave 3D.
Our facilities are well maintained to accommodate and prepare students working in all facets of graphic design.
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Design Studio is an officially recognized student organization that provides pre-professional design opportunities to students. Students gain professional level experience working with clients and solving their graphic design needs.
This student organization also provides networking with alumni, internships and job opportunities in the field. Funds raised support travel to design conferences, visiting artist lectures, and design-related events. Membership in this organization is open to all students in the Department of Art and Design.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ graphic design alumni hold diverse positions in the industry, including printing companies, web design firms, and advertising agencies throughout Texas, including the cities of Southeast Texas, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio.
