Pre-Graduate Preparation: Leveling Program

To apply for the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) or Master of Science (M.S.) in Speech-Language Pathology, you must:

  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communication disorders or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Have a general education background suitable for graduate studies.

If your degree is in another field, you must complete prerequisite courses (“leveling” courses) before applying.

This process usually takes at least three semesters (fall, spring, and summer), depending on your background. Due to federal regulations, non-degree students have a maximum of 12 months of federal loan eligibility to complete these courses.

Leveling does not guarantee admission to the graduate program, but it makes you eligible to apply. For more details, see the “Prerequisites and Entry Requirements” for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
