Â鶹ÊÓƵPD offers spring Citizens' Police Academy

Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Police Department is offering the Â鶹ÊÓƵPD Citizens’ Police Academy this spring to help participants learn about the police profession and criminal justice system.

The Citizens’ Police Academy begins Feb. 2. The course is 1 hour per week, and is offered on Tuesdays, noon to 1 p.m., or Thursdays, 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. A new topic will be covered each week. Participants will graduate April 19.

The program is a series of classes designed to help students, faculty, staff, and alumni learn about officers from the officers and become an active participant in making their community a safer place.

Supervisors, police officers, and specialized personnel will provide classroom instruction in a relaxed and interactive environment. Classes are comprehensive, covering many facets of police work in a relaxed and casual format. During the Citizens’ Police Academy participants will see presentations on police training, communications, criminal investigations, alcohol and drugs, firearms safety, patrol and tactical operations and community oriented policing philosophy. Instruction on these and other topics will consist of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and must be affiliated with Â鶹ÊÓƵ. For more information or to register for the course, contact Corporal Stacy Betz at stacy.betz@lamar.edu, or (409) 880-7086.
