Dancers in the Air at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Fall Dance Concert

Rebekah GonzalesThe Department of Theatre and Dance will present its fall dance concert, “Fall and Recovery,” Nov. 18 - 20 in the University Theatre. The evening of dance works performed by Â鶹ÊÓƵ students encompasses many genres, including tap, jazz, musical theatre, modern, contemporary, and aerial silks, and is choreographed by dance faculty and select students.

"We are excited to present this show to the public because our students have been working hard to build up a reputable concert that not only they are proud of but that the community of Beaumont and Â鶹ÊÓƵ can be proud of also,” said Travis Prokop, assistant professor of dance. “The faculty and students continue to push the boundaries of conventional dance theatre by dancing in the air, and the use of unconventional lighting and scenic design.”

New to the dance concert this fall is an aerial silks performance, in which dancers perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a fabric. Junior theatre and dance major Rebekah Gonzales of Beaumont is one of the students who will “dance in the air.”

“I am so excited to represent my department and my art form in this concert, as well as to show the community the product of our hard work,” said Gonzales. “I hope this concert inspires all who watch to further support and even participate in the arts.”

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, and Saturday, Nov. 19, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. The University Theatre is located at 4400 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ campus.

Tickets are $15 for general admission; $10 for senior citizens, students and Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty/staff; and $7 for Â鶹ÊÓƵ students.
