After a thorough national search, President Kenneth Evans has named Lynn Maurer as dean of 鶹Ƶ’s College of Arts and Sciences. Maurer, who has more than 22 years of teaching, research and service, will assume the position on July 1, 2018 pending TSUS Regents' approval.

Speakers set for Winter Commencement

Eckart is soccer Student-Athlete of the Year
鶹Ƶ senior M.J. Eckart was named the Southland Conference Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year, and the Cardinals placed four student-athletes on the conference's all-academic team that was announced Monday by the SLC office.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Receives Welch Foundation Grant
The 鶹Ƶ Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has been awarded the departmental research grant by the Welch Foundation. The $120,000 grant will be given to 鶹Ƶ over the next three years.

Computer Science team tapped Top 20 in 3-state competition, Best-at-Site
A student team represented 鶹Ƶ recently placed in the Top 20 at the Association on Computing Machinery (ACM) South Central Regional Programming Contest at Louisiana State University. It was 鶹Ƶ’s second consecutive year to crack the Top 20 list.

Center for History and Culture presents 'Singing the Dream'
鶹Ƶ’s Center for History and Culture presents “Singing the Dream: Cajun and Prison Music of Southeast Texas and Louisiana” with Kevin Fontenot and Caroline Gnagy. Two 鶹Ƶ student teams participated in the Texas A&M Law School Regional Moot Court Tournament November 4-5, taking three Top Speaker awards and advancing to the Quarterfinals. The tournament marked the first time 鶹Ƶ has participated in a regional, national-qualifying moot court tournament.

Wayne Reaud becomes 16th Southeast Texas Legends Scholarship Honoree
Wayne Reaud was tapped the 16th Southeast Texas Legend Scholarship honoree at a news conference held November 9 in the lobby of the Wayne A Reaud Administration Building. The Beaumont Foundation began Southeast Texas Legends Scholarships at 鶹Ƶ in 2007 to honor those who blazed a trail across Southeast Texas by providing endowed scholarships for bright youth who need financial help to achieve their potential.

鶹Ƶ partners with UT in DOE grant to explore innovative CO2 storage
鶹Ƶ and the University of Texas are partners in a $4 million grant from the Department of Energy to explore new technologies for offshore geologic CO2 storage. 鶹Ƶ will receive approximately $150,000 in funding for its portion of the project spread across the colleges of engineering and business.

Warren senior Destiny Allain has received the Trjitzinsky Award from the American Mathematical Society in the amount of $3,000. Allain is one of seven recipients in the country to receive this scholarship.

The Texas State University System Board of Regents today re-elected Rossanna Salazar of Austin chairman of the board and William F. Scott of Nederland vice chairman. Enrollment remains strong after hurricane's impact on region
鶹Ƶ is expected to experience only a slight drop of around 3 percent in enrollment for Fall 2017 due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey on the region, officials said. Using the most comparable data, due to the delayed start date, 鶹Ƶ’s enrollment is down about 3.2 percent with 14,516 students enrolled compared to 15,001 in fall 2016

Classic and Antique Car Show scheduled
Many people do not know that Pattillo Higgins’ 1930 Model A Ford is stored at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum. Higgins bought the car for $745 brand new and took it around Texas to find oil sites. His car will be joined by other classic and antique cars on November 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

鶹Ƶ’s Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music recently accepted a donation of educational materials from President Emeritus James M. Simmons. The large number of books and other materials, collected over a career in higher education, were distributed in the department for educational purposes and referencing.

鶹Ƶ supports resident students, provides options
鶹Ƶ students who where sheltered from the storm in its Cardinal Village residence halls were presented with three options in an assembly today, the result of the loss of water service in the city of Beaumont caused by flooding from Tropical Storm Harvey. Without water services, 鶹Ƶ can’t continue to provide support for the 1,200 of students currently living on campus, officials said, and is offering opportunities for students who can to relocate and continue studies online.

The National Science Foundation has awarded 鶹Ƶ a $395,805 grant under the provisions of its Major Research Instrumentation Program for the acquisition of a nanoindentor, a high tech instrument not currently available in the region.

KV鶹Ƶ 91.3 working to restore broadcast after flooding, programming still online
Southeast Texas’ public radio station 91.3 KV鶹Ƶ lost its broadcast signal when Hurricane Harvey’s catastrophic rainfall pummeled Orange County August 30 and the station’s transmitter site in Rose City lost power. KV鶹Ƶ’s leadership is working with 鶹Ƶ administrators and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to develop a plan for the restoration of its signal.

Famous female flyers featured in Oct. 3 Distinguished Faculty Lecture

$1.8 million grant to enhance school counselor mental health training
鶹Ƶ has been awarded a $1.8 million four-year grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Bureau of Health Workforce Education and Training to implement an interdisciplinary model for behavioral health prevention and intervention in local area schools and agencies.

RET opens up engineering research to HS teachers

鶹Ƶ was fourth on the national list for economic mobility among online programs in a study of 2,273 colleges. 鶹Ƶ was one of only 25 to rank on both the comprehensive list as well as the list of 2017 Most Affordable Online Colleges for Student Economic Mobility.

Gill Scholars explore entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley
Ten 鶹Ƶ graduate students recently traveled to Silicon Valley as Gill Scholars to participate in Ignite!, a three-day, immersive entrepreneurial experience. 鶹Ƶ graduate students joined others from Rice University, UC-Davis and Texas medical Center to visit start-ups, high-tech firms and venture capital firms and to learn from successful innovators who discussed their entrepreneurial journeys as guest speakers.

Alumni gifts establish new Faculty Fellowships
鶹Ƶ’s announced the inaugural recipients of the College of Engineering Faculty Fellowship Program, awards made possible through the generosity of five alumni of the university, officials announced. Eleven faculty members where recognized and received funding and the title of faculty fellow in an afternoon program, Wednesday, March 22 in the Center for Innovation, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship.

Market Basket contribution grows scholarship
Family owned and operated grocery store chain Market Basket added $10,000 to the Market Basket Charitable Foundation Scholarship at 鶹Ƶ, thanks to participation in the Market Basket golf tournament held at the Beaumont Country Club recently. Currently, the scholarship supports four students at 鶹Ƶ.

鶹Ƶ’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and ExxonMobil’s Black Employee Success Team (BEST) presented an evening with Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens, Feb. 22, on “Embracing the Present to Ensure Our Future.” Stephens recently became Texas' first African American female sheriff when she was elected to the position in Jefferson County.

Tax assistance available through 鶹Ƶ's V.I.T.A. program
The 鶹Ƶ Community Outreach Program was recently awarded a grant from Entergy Texas to enhance its activities by increasing earned income tax credit (EITC) awareness and education and providing tax preparation services, financial education and economic development.Through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.), the 鶹Ƶ outreach program provides services for individuals and families, students, senior citizens, and the non-English speaking population at several Community Tax Centers.

鶹Ƶ names students to Deans’ List
A total of 1,224 鶹Ƶ students earned places on the deans’ List for the fall 2016 semester, deans of Lamar’s five academic colleges announced. To qualify for the Deans’ List, a student must carry a full course load of 12 semester hours or more and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for that semester. Students with GPAs of 4.0 qualify for the President’s List and automatically earn places on the Deans’ List. Their names are not listed here.

A total of 760 鶹Ƶ students earned places on the President’s List for the 2016 fall semester, President Kenneth Evans announced. Students who qualify for the President’s List carry a full course load of 12 semester hours or more with grade point averages of 4.0 for that semester. They automatically earn places on the Deans’ List.

Bryan Proksch publishes ‘A Sousa Reader'
Bryan Proksch, associate professor of music at 鶹Ƶ, has edited a new book of writings by famed composer John Philip Sousa. Published through Gia Publications, the collection of newspaper articles, letters, and interviews by Sousa and his contemporaries give us a greater understanding of this iconic figure in American music.An American composer and conductor nicknamed “The March King,” Sousa (1854-1932) was known primarily for military and patriotic marches.
