6.2: Professional Judgment - SAI Appeal (Special Circumstance)

Â鶹ÊÓƵ recognizes that there may be circumstances that affect your eligibility for aid, which are not considered on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. If the information filed on the FAFSA does not reflect your current financial situation due to "special circumstances", you may submit the PJ SAI Appeal in Student Forms. By submitting this form, you are requesting the Student Aid Office to make adjustments to the data on your FAFSA, to more accurately reflect you and/or your family's current financial situation.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ will consider the following "special circumstances":

  • Financial changes between base year used on the FAFSA and current year
  • High medical or educational expenses
  • One time disbursement of 104K or investment funds Involuntary reduction/loss of income

How to Apply

Step 1: Fill out the FAFSA

Step 2: Once you receive notification from Â鶹ÊÓƵ that your FAFSA has been received, login to Student Forms and complete PJ Special Circumstance – EFC/SAI Appeal Form.  You will be required to provide:

  1. A detailed statement that includes the following:
    • Reason you are requesting a professional judgment.
    • Extenuating circumstances that qualify you to request a professional judgment.
    • Dates that the extenuating circumstance occurred including date or expected date the extenuating circumstance ended. If professional judgment request is due to unusual expenses, please be specific about the types of unusual expenses.
    • Any additional information that would substantiate your extenuating circumstance.
  2. Supporting documentation

Step 3: A Financial Aid Administrator will contact you if more information is needed.

Step 4: You will be notified of the decision via Student Forms.  The decision of the Student Aid Office is final and cannot be appealed.
