Scholarships and Financial Aid

So we know that it's not enough for us to simply encourage more people to study abroad. We also need to make sure that they can actually afford it.

Understandably, one of the biggest deterrents for students when making the decision to study abroad is concern for the cost. At the Â鶹ÊÓƵ office of Study Abroad and Student Exchange, we want to empower every student who wants to enrich their education through travel to be provided with that opportunity regardless of socioeconomic status or personal finances. Below are several options for scholarships and grants to make this dream a reality:

First, we have multiple scholarships offered through Â鶹ÊÓƵ.  to be considered for the following grants or scholarships for Study Abroad (make sure to select "Study Abroad" on the drop-down menu in the first section). Completing this application will automatically put in the pool for consideration for the following:

  • The Study Abroad Fee Grant (almost every student qualifies for this $200 scholarship! Funds available on a first come first serve basis.)

  • The McMaster Study Abroad Grant for Reaud Honors College undergraduate students for $1000

  • The Carter Innovation Fund Scholarship for undergraduate business majors/minors up to $2500

  • The Steinhagen Global Fellowship scholarship for graduate business majors/minors up to $2500

 

If you are a Pell Grant recipient, you automatically qualify for the . The Gilman offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or internships abroad. Applications open once a semester with deadlines in October and March of each year. This scholarship can apply toward short term, faculty-led study abroad programs and semester long exchanges. 

If you are considering spending a semester studying abroad at one of our , the following are scholarships for students going abroad for a semester:

  • --The Boren Awards fund the intensive study of language and culture abroad by U.S. undergraduate or graduate students. Students must be studying abroad for at least 12 weeks 

  • --for students studying abroad in East or Southeast Asia (students who study at one of our two partner universities in South Korea would qualify) 

  • --students who choose to study abroad at our partner university in Germany qualify for this scholarship

  • --$1000 scholarship offered to students who have been accepted into a semester/year long study abroad program 

 

What if none of these scholarships are a good fit? 

We encourage you to take advantage of . This website is designed to help students raise funds for their study abroad trips through the generosity of their network of friends, family, and acquaintances.

With FundMyTravel, you can create a personalized donation page where you can share your trip itinerary, a video explaining your plans, and letters of recommendation from professors or study abroad advisors. This allows potential donors to see exactly what they are contributing to and feel confident in their decision to support you.

The process is simple: you create a profile, set a fundraising goal, and then share the link with your network. From there, donors can contribute directly to your campaign and help you reach your study abroad dreams.

Annually, nearly 3,000 students are awarded up to $8,000 toward their study abroad program.
