New year. New faces. Welcome home, class of 2026! It's a whole new world for incoming freshman who joined the Cardinal family this fall. For as long as she could remember, Emily Smith, a history major, always had her sights set on attending University of Texas in Austin. But when it came down to choosing the best university for her, the Port Neches native said Â鶹ÊÓƵ was a perfect fit.
Q: Why Â鶹ÊÓƵ?
A:Growing up only 20 minutes away from Lamar, you hear about it a lot. I had my eyes set to go to UT Austin for a little while, but after both of my brothers enrolled in Â鶹ÊÓƵ during my junior year of high school, I watched their experiences and noticed how much fun they were having. Eventually, I decided that Lamar was the right choice for me, and since making that decision, I have not looked back.
Q: In your opinion, what is the best thing about Â鶹ÊÓƵ?
A: Lamar has so many resources, clubs, organizations and activities that all are welcome to. There is a place for everyone to be involved in student life and many ways to make new friends. (Also, the Starbucks on campus is nice 😊)
Q: How has your experience at Â鶹ÊÓƵ been so far?
A: Life at Lamar has been absolutely incredible! I was so nervous to start this new chapter of my life, but everyone is so welcoming and there is always someone to give you a helping hand if needed. I have already joined several clubs and organizations who have all been so incredible in helping me get a foot in the door to become more active in student life.
Q: What are you most excited about for the start of the fall semester?
A: I am most excited to experience my first college football game. I cannot wait to be in the student section rooting for the team, and to go to the tailgates!
Q: What are you most nervous about?
A: I think I’m most nervous about my classes. I want to strive to be the best I can be here at Lamar which means doing the best I can in all the courses I’m taking.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: I cannot say enough about how much I am enjoying life at Lamar and my college experience so far. It was scary at the beginning, but there are so many people and groups here to help you feel welcome, and ready to start your college career.
